White Space Distortion

Definition

S-% indicates the proportion of distorted responses among responses that use white space. It does not measure only how often S appears, but how much distortion is combined with white-space use.

Interpretation

If S-% is high, opposition or distance from the field may be accompanied by more perceptual distortion.
It can suggest that white-space use is not only a defensive stance, but also a source of mediation disorganization.
Its meaning gains strength when S is also elevated.

Cautions

S-% is not the same as S in the upper section or S in affect.
If there are very few S responses, the ratio can be unstable.
It should be read as white space plus distortion, not as a pure index of negativism.
