Definition

scoring-input names the full phase in which each response is converted into Comprehensive System codes. This page does not interpret structural-summary variables; it maps the coding families used before interpretation begins.

Conditions

• Coding is done response by response, in the actual order of the protocol.
• For each response, it is usually safest to check location, DQ, determinants, FQ, content, and supplementary codes in a consistent sequence.
• When applicable, Pair, Popular, Z, GHR/PHR, and Special Scores are added as well.
• Coding decisions should come from the response plus the relevant inquiry, not from a later global impression of the person.
• The goal of this phase is to record each response in symbols accurately enough to support the structural summary.

Cautions

• Coding is not the same task as interpretation.
• In this phase, accurate description of the response matters more than broad clinical meaning.
• A card or context may guide attention, but the final code still depends on the concrete features of the response.
• The same sign can mean different things in different contexts.
• For example, Card V is not the determinant V.
• In the same way, DQ + is not FQ +.
