  • white space responses

Definition

S is the frequency of responses that use white space as the main location. Within Upper Section it is read as a clue about reversed focus, opposition, or unconventional exploration of the field.

Interpretation

  • Some S may accompany independent focus or critical exploration of the stimulus.
  • High S may suggest opposition, nonconformity, or a tendency to look where others do not.
  • Low S simply indicates that white space was not an important resource in the protocol.

Cautions

  • High S should not be reduced immediately to rebellion.
  • If S rises with S-%, X-%, AG, or PER, the meaning may lean toward greater conflict or inefficiency.
  • If it appears with good mediation and good formal control, it may also reflect flexibility or originality.
