Definition

R is the total number of responses in the protocol. In interpretation it functions first as an indicator of range, productivity, and record adequacy.

Interpretation

Very low R requires great caution in reading the protocol.
A sufficient R gives a more stable basis for interpreting the rest of the structural summary.
High R is not automatically a strength; it may also accompany expansiveness or overproduction.

Cautions

Low R may reflect defensiveness, withdrawal, fatigue, situational anxiety, or problems in the test relationship.
High R does not by itself imply adaptive richness.
The meaning of R changes with Lambda, DQ, and test behavior.
