[Coding/Determinants] FD

[Coding/Determinants] FD

Aliases

  • FD
  • form-dimension
  • form-based depth

Definition

FD is coded when the impression of depth, distance, or dimension comes from form and contour rather than shading.
The person organizes the third dimension from relative size, position, or formal arrangement.

Conditions

  • The dimensional quality must come from formal relations of size, edge, distance, or contour.
  • The response should not depend on shading to produce depth.
  • Inquiry must confirm that the idea of relief, distance, or perspective comes from form.
  • If the dimension depends on shading, review scoring-input/determinants/FV, scoring-input/determinants/VF, or scoring-input/determinants/V.

Cautions

  • FD is not the same as scoring-input/determinants/F; FD adds dimensional organization.
  • FD is not the same as scoring-input/determinants/FV or scoring-input/determinants/V; those responses do depend on shading.
  • FD is also not the same as content scoring-input/contents/Fd; one is a determinant and the other is content.
  • Phrases like "farther away," "closer," "coming out," or "behind" are not enough by themselves if they are not supported by form or contour.
