[Interpretation/Interpersonal] a:p
Aliases
- a:p
- active:passive
- active-passive ratio
Definition
a:p shows the proportion between active and passive movement when it is read from the interpersonal angle.
In this section, it helps estimate whether the person imagines relatedness from a more active or more receptive position.
Interpretation
- If the passive pole weighs more heavily, there may be greater expectation of receiving, waiting, or depending on the other person.
- If the active pole dominates, relatedness may be imagined with more initiative, intervention, or self-direction.
- The variable describes relational direction, not total relationship quality.
- Comparing it with
COP,AG, andSumT_interhelps distinguish initiative, dependency, and conflict.
Cautions
- A small difference can be exaggerated if the total amount of movement is low.
- Passive predominance does not automatically equal pathological passivity.
- Active predominance does not automatically equal healthy autonomy; with high
AG, it can become more controlling or aggressive.
