Definition

Id is used as a last-resort content code when the response does not reasonably fit standard content categories.
It is not a code for "odd content" in general; it is for truly idiographic content after other options have been checked.

Conditions

Consider Id only after checking that the response does not fit another content category better.
When it is used, it is good practice to preserve the exact wording of the content in writing.
If the unusual content is really scientific or technical, first reconsider scoring-input/contents/Sc.
If the unusual content takes the form of an artistic or symbolic object, first reconsider scoring-input/contents/Art.

Cautions

Strange content does not automatically become Id.
A test tube, machine, or device should still go first to scoring-input/contents/Sc.
A decorative or symbolic object may require scoring-input/contents/Art instead of Id.
Id should remain a controlled exception, not a convenient category for uncertainty.
